Notes on file:

  • - The things I want are the same things everybody wants: Love, support, and to change the world. Progress on these has been varied, but I’m working on it.
  • - In over five years, I’ve lived all over Manhattan, but never in any of the other boroughs. Harlem was my favorite neighborhood, the Upper East Side was the worst. Right now I’m in Inwood, and I like it well enough to stay. At least for a while.
  • - Eventually I’d like to get an MBA, and then maybe help with marketing and media strategy for companies and projects that I believe in. It seems like people could use some help in communicating these days.
  • - …Or maybe I’ll be an astronaut. Who knows.
  • - I don’t have cable or a real, working TV in my place. I’ve decided that this is (minorly) bad for my career but (majorly) good for my sanity, so that’s how it’s staying for now.
  • - My favorite book is Grendel by John C. Gardner. Runners up are House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski and The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. Mmmm, books.
  • - I really wish I knew how to cook better. Again, I’m working on it.
  • - I like learning new things and talking to people. Come tell me something I haven’t heard before.

About this Site

Remember a long time ago, in the Bronze Age of the internet (think late ’90’s, early 2000’s), when lots of people had personal websites, just for them? Not just for their band, their business, or their dating profile, but for the whole spectrum of their lives and the things they like doing? That’s what I’m trying to do here. I do a lot of different things, and I have a bad habit of compartmentalizing different parts of my life, keeping my areas of interest as separate from each other in my social life and in my head as they seem to be on a simple list:

  • - Promotions and marketing
  • - Adult literacy education
  • - Cooking
  • - Progressive secularism and church/state issues
  • - Web design
  • - Mid-18th - late 19th century American history
  • - Terrible cult movies
  • - Book publishing
  • - Computer programming and database development
  • - Pretty flowers, orchids especially
  • - Science education
  • - Reptiles
  • - Etc., etc., etc.

…But the truth is, I like all that stuff. And all of that (and more) will make an appearance here. This site is an experiment in integration, keeping myself together and sharing some of my weird but varied interests with the world.

Also, I am very bad at following the trends. I didn’t do Friendster 5 years ago or Facebook 3 years ago or MySpace last year, and I’m not doing whatever 6-month web trend comes next, either. This site seemed like a better excuse to avoid doing all that. So give me some credit for trying, at least.

Finally, if it even needs to be said: Nothing on this website represents the opinions, endorsements or official positions of my employer or any of the organizations I happen to be affiliated with or mention around here. It’s all just me. This was built as a personal site, and that’s how it’s staying.
