RHUBARB!!!

I’ve never seen it around, but there has to be a farmer’s market somewhere that’ll hook me up with some rhubarb in this town.

I won’t have time this weekend, but next weekend? I’m making strawberry rhubarb pie, baby. All the way.

In other news, class tonight was brutal. Four people showed up, and one only stayed for half the time. Warm weather is killing attendance, last week was just the same. I’m getting some more homework in, but it’s hard not having any ammunition stronger than “you guys aren’t going to LEARN ANYTHING” to hold over my students’ heads in order to get them to do their work outside of class. It can be frustrating beyond belief.

One of our bright and more motivated students had to take a leave of absence recently, she works 6-7 days a week and just couldn’t keep up anymore. But my co-tutor called her this week and we’re going to try and set up some weekend tutoring sessions outside of class, just to keep her up on what’s going on until she has the time and energy to recommit to regular lessons. I’m going to have to ask her who her math teacher is, see if maybe they want to send lesson plans or worksheets with us as well. I hope we can all make that happen. It’d be a shame to let her fall behind.

In my own reading news, I finished The Namesake. It’s odd–I really enjoyed the book, but it made me lose interest in seeing the movie. I guess that the previews make it look like a totally different show–one I would enjoy on its own, but now having read the book, I realize that the story its trailers hint at just isn’t as good as the one the book tells, and isn’t related enough to keep it coherent. I might be wrong, and I might still see it. But unless a friend really makes a push, it will probably be Netflixed in a few months rather than watched in theaters anytime soon.
