Some miscellaneous news to close out the weekend:
There’s a nice updated version of the informational pamphlet outlining the connections between (and problems with) ID and creationism over at The Panda’s Thumb today. This is an adaptation from the handy text used by Kansas Citizens for Science. Anybody interested in a quick explanation of what the ID movement is and why it’s not a model on par with evolution should definitely check it out.
In the tech world, Amazon is apparently vying for a place as the YouTube for the major commercial software set…at least in terms of angry lawsuits:
Amazon leaks Adobe CS3 pricing, availability dates, code split
All of which sucks for Adobe, for now. But scroll down that page a little and look at what’s coming:
While the full price list borders on the intimidating, the cost for users varies from as little as $110 Canadian ($95 US) for a Contribute CS3 upgrade to $3,440 ($2,969 US) for the complete Master Collection that bundles Adobe’s deluxe artistic and video editing tools.
Seriously, how hot is all that?
And as all of my design software is in need of upgrades, that master collection looks way, way too good to be true. And way, way too expensive for my blood. But still, seriously, looking at that makes me want to drool.
Lastly, I just have to rub this in:
Not all of these offerings will be available to every Mac user, however. Amazon has tellingly earmarked each Mac edition with separate “Mac OS X” and “Mac OS X Intel” labels that indicate which of Apple’s computers will run Adobe’s latest software. . . . the Master Collection is listed as Intel-only — revealing that some or all of the revived Mac video editing components are unlikely to ever receive native PowerPC code.
Take that, you Apple junkies and Mac-only design purists. Me and my new Dell will just save for a few months and make this new toy ours.
